About Managing for Wellness, LLC

I am an Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapist and Coach.  I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

What is ACT:  This is a thoroughly researched and tested method that allows a person to gain what is known as psychological flexibility, the ability to contact the present moment as a conscious human being and, based on the possibilities present in the situation, act in accordance with one’s goals and chosen values.

ACT is based in being present in the moment (mindfulness), accepting one’s thoughts, feelings and emotions for what they are and not trying to repress or avoid them, and being able to hold these thoughts and emotions in such a way that they do not distract from moving forward toward one’s goals.  ACT teaches us not to avoid our inner and outer experiences and thus our lives but rather to move with them.  We become able to be our own observers in the moment rather than being completely caught up in our turmoil.  We learn to identify the values we want to live by in each area of our lives, to be true to them and to base our choices and actions from a values-based place.

ACT offers us a healthy way to live fully and in the moment.  ACT is a way-of-being in the world that changes how we relate to everything including all of our mood problems such as anxiety and depression as well as our pathologies, such as narcissism, borderline disorders.  It has been used successfully with stress, primary and secondary trauma and PTSD, relationship and issues of the self, workplace adjustment, group therapy and many, many other modalities.

As an ACT therapist, I come to you from a compassionate, vulnerable, genuine and sharing place.  I am always aware of the need to be flexible in our work  to be able to fit your needs in the moment and I constantly tailor new exercises and tasks to fit your context.  You can expect me to challenge you at the same time as I hold your difficult feelings, ideas and memories in safe container where we can explore them together, accept them and move forward.  I offer ACT to you as the most powerful form of mental health transformation I have ever encountered.

My ACT training includes work with Stephen Hayes, Matthieu Villatte, Brenda Bomgardner and other top ACT practitioners, researchers and developers.  I closely follow the work of the major thought leaders in the field.    My mental health practice spans almost two decades and my work in the professional business world spans several more.

I am highly experienced in trauma recovery work and stress management.  I work extensively with the somatic therapies to release stress and trauma from the mind-body and to restore balance.  I take a very brain-based approach to my work, staying on top of the new development in neural integration.  It is my belief that without this focus no therapy is likely to have much of a long-term impact.

I am a certified clinical trauma professional who provides both assessment and treatment.  I have trained with many of the most well-known scholars in the field of trauma such as Daniel Siegel, Stephen Porges, Peter Levine, Pat Ogden, Ruth Lanier and others.  Healing trauma whether incurred in conflict situations, natural disasters, relationships, family systems, the workplace or other environments is my passion.  I lean heavily on both the somatic therapies and on ACT in my work.   I would be happy to tell you more about my approach and what you can expect from me as your therapist.  I invite you to contact me to discuss how I can help you.
